With so many colours to choose from, it can be difficult to decide on a colour with which to paint your home and the process can feel a little daunting.

1. Begin at the bottom
When choosing the right paint colour(s) for your home, it’s a great idea to begin at the bottom. And by the bottom we mean the floor.
Why? Your floor will influence your colour choices. So, make sure your colour of choice will work well with your floor colour and texture, and if you haven’t chosen your flooring for a new home yet, we recommend doing this first.
2. Consider who the space is for
You may love the colour pink and want to paint your walls this colour, but if you’re painting your rental property or a home that may soon be going on the market, it’s probably not a wise colour to choose.
Whilst you may love the thought of basking in a pink space, potential tenants or buyers may not.
3. Think about the mood you want to create
Colour creates mood, so it’s important to think about the mood you want to create for each room, before choosing your colours.
For example, for your home office, you’ll likely want to choose a bright colour that inspires you and makes you feel happy. For your bedroom, you’ll likely want to choose a pastel colour that helps you feel calm, relaxed and ready for sleep.

4. Think about how light can impact colours
Did you know that paint can look very different in different lights? Whether it’s natural or artificial light streaming into a room, the colour you painted your walls with, can start to look quite different.
This is a common missed step, and why it’s a great idea to paint your samples on and take photos at different times during the day, and a night time with the lights on – just to make sure it’s still the right colour choice for you.
5. Get clear on what you want the colour to do
Granted, you want the colour to look nice, but colours can elevate your space in different ways and even play tricks on the eyes, so it’s important to get clear on what you want your colour do for your space.
· Want your space to look larger? Consider using light colours such as white and pale blue, to make the room seem bigger.
· Want your large space to feel cosy? Consider using dark colours, such as deep browns, oranges and reds - even just on one feature wall.
